Nutrition for active children
Kids love exercise! Whether it’s soccer, dancing, swimming or cycling – sport is an important and fun part of everyday life for many children and promotes not only physical fitness but also mental development. However, in order for children who are active in sports to reach their full potential, the right nutrition is of great importance. Because only with the right nutrients can energy levels remain high and regeneration after sport be optimally supported.
Before sport: energy for small power packs
Whether young or old, anyone who does sport needs energy! It’s all about having the right energy. A balanced, nutritious meal before sport ensures that the body is able to perform without feeling tired or sluggish.
Easily digestible carbohydrates that provide quick energy without putting too much strain on the stomach are best for this. Oatmeal with banana and berries is ideal, but a slice of mixed or wholemeal bread with cream cheese is also suitable. These options give the body long-lasting energy that is continuously released during training. In combination with some protein, for example from cream cheese, yoghurt, quark or a boiled egg, muscle building is also supported.
Another important point: the last large meal should be eaten around two to three hours before exercise. A small snack such as an apple, a banana or an energy ball can also provide an additional energy boost around 30 minutes before the activity.

After sport: regeneration and muscle building
The body needs to regenerate after sport. It needs the right nutrients to recover and start the next sports session stronger. Carbohydrates and protein play a particularly important role here.
Carbohydrates replenish empty energy stores, while protein promotes muscle building and repairs the muscles after exercise. An ideal combination would be a wholemeal sandwich with chicken breast or cottage cheese, scrambled eggs with vegetables or yogurt with oatmeal and berries. A warm meal such as a pasta dish with a protein-rich sauce or a quinoa bowl with chicken or fish and vegetables is also ideal after exercise.
It is also important to replenish your fluid reserves. Water or an unsweetened herbal tea are the best way to compensate for fluid loss through sweating.
Healthy and strong: active kids need power food!
A balanced, nutrient-rich diet is particularly important for active children, as it lays the foundation for healthy physical and mental development. It ensures that the body receives all the important micro- and macronutrients it needs for energy, growth and regeneration. The need for nutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and minerals is particularly increased during sporting activity. In addition to the main nutrients, vitamins and minerals such as calcium, magnesium and iron also play an important role, as they are essential for bone health, muscle function and blood formation. A deficiency can lead to growth disorders or increased susceptibility to injury in the long term.
If all these nutrients are supplied in sufficient quantities, children can generally remain active for longer, concentrate better and perform optimally in sports. Give your little explorers the power food they need for their (sporting) challenges!
