This is not only good for muscles and mood, but also for the gut! Because while somersaults, trampolining or a wild game of tag look like pure romping, there is an important side effect going on inside: digestion gets going. With every turn, every jump and every lap, the intestines get a little motivational kick!

Playfully easy: How exercise promotes digestion

For the bowel to work well, it not only needs healthy, varied food and sufficient fluids – exercise is also important. Although the intestines work independently to move the food along, this movement can be stimulated by exercise. When children run around, the blood flows better, the metabolism runs faster and the good intestinal bacteria feel good. Movement also trains the abdominal muscles – this acts like a small external massage that supports the intestines. Particularly practical: children usually feel the effect straight away – after a round in the playground or a wild game of tag, they often “go potty” more quickly.

Jumping, running, rolling - exercise ideas for all ages

Exercise should be fun, age-appropriate and varied! Whether it’s the first crawling adventures, wild dance parties or team sports: there are suitable ways for every age to get the body moving and help digestion at the same time. Here are some ideas for children of all ages:

Toddlers (1-3 years): Bouncing on a soft surface, crawling through tunnels, rolling or throwing balls. Even simple movements promote motor skills and digestion.

Children of pre-school age (4-6 years): Jumping games such as jumping jacks or jumping jacks, tricycles, balance bikes or bicycles, small dance parties in the nursery.

Primary school children (7-10 years): jumping rope, ball games, children’s yoga or small courses in the garden. Anything that is fun and moves the whole body is ideal.

Tweens (11+ years): Team sports such as soccer or basketball, but also cycling or swimming – the main thing is to do it regularly and enjoy it.

Introduce your children to exercise as early as possible and let them try out what they enjoy.
